L’uomo aveva deciso di non muoversi più. Sarebbe diventato immobile ed eterno come la roccia. Ma stare fermi annoia, per questo cominciò a raccontarsi delle storie:
LA VITA SEGRETA DEI LIBRI
L’uomo aveva letto tutti i libri della sua enorme biblioteca. Nessuno di loro aveva più segreti per lui, e fu proprio in quel momento che si rese conto di una cosa incredibile. I libri bisbigliavano. Era solo una cosa impercettibile, ma se si concentrava riusciva a sentirli. Passò tempi infiniti a cercare di capire cosa dicevano, e quando finalmente ci riuscì scoprì la cosa più straordinaria di tutte. I libri, tra loro, parlano dei programmi visti in televisione.
CONOSCERE E’ VIVERE
“Adoro navigare in internet. Scoprire cose nuove, partecipare alla finestra sul mondo…” Si accese la luce. Nella stanza entrò un uomo: “Ancora con questa storia dell’internet?! Smettila di fingerti vivo!!” e con un clic spense il computer.
LO SPECCHIO
Nel segreto della sua casa il ragazzo parlava spesso al suo riflesso nello specchio. Gli raccontava storie che aveva scritto, gli confidava i suoi segreti più profondi.La cosa era un po’ sciocca ma in qualche modo lo faceva sentire bene. Un giorno la sua vicina venne a trovarlo e prima di uscire si guardò civettuola nello specchio. Quella sera stessa, dopo una lunga litigata provocata dalla gelosia, il ragazzo lo ruppe in mille pezzi.
PICCOLE SODDISFAZIONI
A Gianni piaceva il senso di onnipotenza. In estate faceva il ghiaccio con dei contenitori a forma di omini. Una volta pronti si divertiva un mondo a vederli affogare nel the freddo. L’importante per lui era godersi le piccole soddisfazioni della vita.
BISCOTTI
Anna adorava impastare i biscotti a forma di animali. Quello che non le piaceva era quando tentavano di scappare dal forno acceso.
VIVERE
“Fingersi vivi, è lì che sta il segreto!” disse la pietra alla tartaruga…
L’uomo chiuse gli occhi e iniziò il suo sogno di eternità.

The man had read all the books in his huge library. None of them had secrets for him, and it was then that he started noticing something incredible. The books whispered. It was just an imperceptible sound, but if he focused he could hear them. He spent endless times trying to figure out what they were saying. Finally he did it, and discovered the most extraordinary thing. The books speak between them of the shows they watch on television.
KNOWLEDGE IS LIFE
“I love surfing the web. Discovering new things, taking part to the window of the world…” The light was turned on. A man entered the room: “This Internet stuff, again? Stop faking you’re alive!” and with a click he turned the computer off.
THE MIRROR
In the secret of his house the boy often talked to his image in the mirror.
He told him sories he wrote and his deepest secrets. That was a bit silly, but it made him feel better somehow. On day his neighbour came to visit him and watched herself skittishly in the mirror before she went away. That same night, after a long jealous fight, the boy broke the mirror in a million pieces.
LITTLE SATISFACTIONS
Gianni loved to feel almighty. In the summer he made ice cubes shaped like little men. Once they were ready, he had lots of fun watching them drown in the ice tea. It was important for him to enjoy the small satisfactions of life.
COOKIES
Anna loved to knead animal-shaped cookies. What she didn’t like was when they tried to run away from the hot oven.
LIVING
“To fake you’re alive, that’s what’s all about!” said the stone to the turtle…
The man closed his eyes, and began his dream of eternity.
